Judge Dredd

Guy who created Dredd wants you to know what he thinks of the movie

Dredd, a futuristic man who lays down the law in a future dysfunctional society. Judge – Jury – Executioner all in one – they are dedicated to upholding the law to the letter, they cant be swayed or bribed – they are The Judges.

2000 AD was one of the first comics as a child i read and one which i followed for many years, or should i say many progs.

I loved the ABC Warriors, Strontium Dog, Rogue Trooper and more. But the one recurring character i always followed and loved the stories of was “Dredd – Judge Dredd”

So imagine my delight and thoughts of a movie that was being made, great i thought. I’ll finally see them on the big screen – but oh what a cluster f..ck it was. Butchered beyond belief – watered down and manipulated for Hollywood.

Now they are trying again – people that understand the characters, the enviroment, politics and more.  But if i see that dam helmet come off im out that cinema!!!!

So imagine how a comic book creator is going to feel about seeing his work adapted for the Big Screen.  It can either go incredibly well or horribly wrong. But John Wagner is in the very rare position of having his beloved character, Judge Dredd, put to the big screen for the second time.  And he’s just seen the Karl Urban reboot and it seems like Wagner……….

Seems like he has given it his blessing. Well thats what we think after reading this post on his Facebook page:

“I went up to London yesterday to see the completed Dredd film. I’ve had reservations about certain aspects of it, and made them plain to the team at DNA. All but one of them—a little quibble at the beginning—have been addressed. And what a lot they’ve added. Music is on the button. SFX are excellent. Filming is impressive. I’ve not seen a modern 3-D movie before but I like it. I found myself reaching out trying to touch things that were dancing before my eyes. Karl is a great Dredd and Olivia gets Anderson completely. This is Dredd as it should be done—true to character, visceral, unrelentingly violent (but not off-puttingly so). It will open, I believe, sometime in September. No doubt you’ll let me know what you think when you’ve seen it, but this has my recommendation.”

I can only pray this removes the memories of the Sylvester Stallone version from mine and your minds, and Dredd finally has his day!

Judge Minty Teaser

The Judge Minty fan film teaser trailer has premiered. Judge Minty is directed by Steven Sterlacchini and stars Edmund Dehn and Greg Staples. Steve Green is the director of photography and digital artist behind the effects. Judge Minty‘s plot synopsis: “The film will be based on Judge Minty, a character created by John Wagner and Mick McMahon. An aging Judge who is forced to ‘retire’ from the streets, mainly it seems because he has become too compassionate. He chooses to take ‘The Long Walk’ into the Cursed Earth, there “to take law to the lawless”. The film will be based around his first experiences in the radioactive waste [land]“.
